Depending on where you live, more than likely your pond water is getting much colder, which means your pond life and fish are too!  Here are this months to 10 MOJO’s pond tips for your Las Vegas pond and or water garden this winter: 

1. Determine which of your pond life and fish are from the wild or farmed.

2. Farmed fish will stop eating when the water temp turns 45-50 degrees, however fish caught from the wild tend to have a higher tolerance for colder water and will eat food that sinks.

4. The jury is out, and with your umbrella palms indoors for the winter be sure to keep them wet at all times or they will die

5. Routinely remove any dead leaves from your pond.

6. Trim back all of your over grown plants and bushes.

7. Give your pond a thorough cleaning before winter.

8. If your climate zone tends to freeze your pond over with a layer of ice be sure to keep an ice hole around by pouring warm water on the top.  This allows oxygen is still flowing through out.

9. Keep an eye on your fish’s health by regularly checking for fungus, bacteria growth,  parasites, or any other abnormities.  Be sure to remove sick fish and place in separate holding container.

10. Fish that do not come up to surface are overfeed or not hungry
